We investigated how silybin, a unique flavonoid found in certain plants, impacts autoimmune disorders, specifically using a model for multiple sclerosis called experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).

We explored the impact of silymarin, a compound from milk thistle, on the immune system in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). By isolating Th1 cells from both newly diagnosed and treatment-receiving patients, we assessed how silymarin affected cell activity at various doses and times.

Our results indicated that silymarin effectively reduced Th1 cell proliferation and interfered with the production of key inflammatory markers.
